Window fitter, Ross-on-Wye

A window fitter for Ross-on-Wye homes

Ross-on-Wye has every kind of house: red sandstone cottages and townhouses around the Market House, Victorian and Edwardian villas, brick semis and bungalows on the estates, and farmhouses and barn conversions in the villages along the Wye. Each one asks something different of a window.

An old stone cottage needs frames made for openings that are never quite square. A bungalow may want wide, low-maintenance casements and a new roofline to match. A modern house might suit slim aluminium. That is why every window we fit is measured by us and made to order, and why we fit uPVC and aluminium in every style and colour.

Replacement windows are a job you only want to do once. Tell us about the house and we will tell you plainly what would suit it.

Before and after

From a draughty oak door to a composite door

The old oak door on this country house was getting very draughty and had lost its kerb appeal. We replaced it with a modern composite door.

The design and the colour were chosen to complement the old stonework, and the new door brings energy efficiency and high security with it. Another happy customer.

Choosing frames

uPVC, aluminium or composite?

The three materials most replacement windows and doors are made from, and what each is good at. We fit all three.

uPVC

Used for
Windows, doors, conservatories, fascias and soffits
The look
White, colours and woodgrain finishes
Upkeep
A wipe down now and then. No painting
Worth knowing
Usually the lower-cost choice, and the one most homes have

Aluminium

Used for
Windows, doors and conservatories
The look
Slim frames, so more glass and more light
Upkeep
A wipe down now and then. No painting
Worth knowing
Stronger than uPVC, which is why the frames can be slimmer. Usually costs more

Composite

Used for
Front and back doors
The look
A solid, timber-style door in a wide choice of colours
Upkeep
No painting or varnishing
Worth knowing
Brings energy efficiency and high security together

FAQs

Window fitter Ross-on-Wye: your questions answered

Who is a local window fitter in Ross-on-Wye?

Easy Glaze is. We supply and fit windows, doors and conservatories in uPVC and aluminium for homes and commercial premises in Ross-on-Wye and the villages around it, along with fascias, soffits, guttering and cladding. Call 07837 101289 or send the enquiry form for a free quotation.

How much do replacement windows cost in Ross-on-Wye?

It depends on how many windows there are, their size and style, whether you choose uPVC or aluminium, the colour, the glass, and how easy each opening is to reach. Bay windows, shaped frames and upstairs windows that need a scaffold add to the cost. We do not publish a price list because no two houses are alike. Call 07837 101289 or send the form and we will arrange to measure up and give you a free quotation, with no obligation.

How long does window fitting take?

A single window usually takes a couple of hours, and a whole house is typically done in one to three days. Bay windows, shaped frames and awkward access take longer. Windows are normally taken out and replaced one at a time, so the house is not left open to the weather. We will tell you how long to allow when we quote.

Do I need planning permission for replacement windows?

Usually not for a house, as long as the new windows look similar to the old ones. Flats and maisonettes usually do need permission, a listed building needs listed building consent, and some homes in conservation areas, including the centre of Ross-on-Wye, have extra controls. Herefordshire Council’s planning team can confirm what applies to your address.

Do replacement windows need Building Regulations approval?

Yes. In England, replacing windows and outside doors is controlled work, covering heat loss, ventilation, safety glass and escape in a fire. The work is signed off either through a competent person scheme or by building control, and you should be given a certificate to keep for when you sell the house. Ask us how your job will be signed off.

Are uPVC or aluminium windows better?

Both keep the weather out and neither needs painting. uPVC is usually the lower-cost choice, comes in white, colours and woodgrain finishes, and suits most homes. Aluminium is stronger, so the frames can be slimmer and the panes larger, which suits modern designs and wide openings, and it usually costs more. We fit both and will talk you through which suits your house.

Can you replace misted double glazing without changing the whole window?

Often, yes. When the glass mists up between the panes, the seal on that double-glazed unit has failed. If the frame is still in good condition, the glass unit can be replaced on its own, which costs far less than a new window.

Do you fit composite doors?

Yes. We fit composite front doors as well as uPVC doors, French doors and sliding patio doors, in a wide choice of colours and glass. A composite door combines energy efficiency with high security, and it never needs painting.

Do you fit fascias, soffits and guttering as well?

Yes. As well as windows, doors and conservatories we fit uPVC fascias, soffits, guttering and cladding. It is often worth having the roofline done at the same time as new windows, in a colour to match.

Do you work on commercial premises?

Yes. Our services cover both domestic and commercial premises. Tell us about the building, what it needs and when the work can be done, and we will give you a free quotation.

Which areas do you cover?

Ross-on-Wye and the villages around it, including Wilton, Bridstow, Walford, Goodrich, Whitchurch, Peterstow, Weston under Penyard, Lea and Upton Bishop. The full list is on our coverage page. If your village is not listed, ring 07837 101289 and ask.
